Summary
- 11 of our 41 products carry a California Proposition 65 warning. Each one shows the full wording on its own product page, again in your cart, and again at checkout.
- Caps, closures, funnels and small hardware are choking hazards for children under three.
- Coatings are water-resistant, not waterproof. No product should be inverted for long periods or soaked.
- Nothing we sell is intended for food, drink or anything ingestible.
- We make no antibacterial, antimicrobial, leak-proof or security-screening claims about any product.
California Proposition 65
California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, known as Proposition 65, requires businesses selling into California to give a clear and reasonable warning before exposing anyone to a chemical the State has listed as causing cancer or reproductive harm.
For an online sale, that warning has to be given before the purchase is completed, and it has to be associated with the specific product it applies to. A single warning buried on a legal page does not satisfy the rule, so we do not rely on this page alone:
- the full short-form warning appears on the product page of every item it applies to;
- it appears again on each affected line in your cart;
- it appears a third time at checkout, with a tick box you must confirm before the order can be submitted.
Products with no listed chemical show no warning at all. We do not apply a blanket warning to the whole catalogue, because a warning that appears everywhere tells you nothing.
The chemical named in each warning is the one associated with that item’s material group: flexible PVC components are warned for di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP); plated zinc-alloy hardware is warned for lead. Wording is reviewed against the finished-material test report for each production run, and this page is updated if a material changes. Further information is published by the State of California at www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.

Children and small parts
Our products are not toys and are not designed or marketed for children’s use, with the single exception of the child-sized hanging case, which is a travel case for a family to pack, not a plaything.
- Choking hazard. Bottle caps, pumps, sprayers, funnels, jar lids and end caps are small parts. Keep them away from children under three.
- The child-sized case is built with fully rounded corners, a sewn-in webbing loop instead of a detachable hook, oversized zip pullers, and no magnets, no mirror and no detachable hardware of any kind.
- Cords and straps. No product has a drawcord or a neck strap.
- Magnets. We do not use magnetic closures anywhere in the range. Swallowed magnets are a serious hazard, so we avoid the issue entirely rather than warn about it.
Mirrors and hardware
Where a product includes a mirror, it is acrylic, not glass, so a drop does not produce sharp fragments. It is still not unbreakable: if the panel cracks, stop using it and dispose of it safely.
Metal hardware is plated zinc alloy on hooks and clasps, and nylon coil on zips. Plating can wear with heavy use; if it does, the underlying alloy is the subject of the lead warning above.
Water resistance, stated honestly
Our coated linings resist splashes and short contact with a damp counter, and they wipe clean. That is the whole of the claim. Specifically:
- they will not survive being inverted with an open bottle inside;
- they will not survive immersion or a long soak;
- they are not tested to any waterproofing standard, and we quote no rating;
- the wet-zone case has drainage eyelets precisely because it is designed to let water out, not to hold it in.
If you are packing something that will leak, seal it in its own bag first. No fabric case is a substitute for a closed lid.
Not for food or drink
Bottles, jars, squeeze tubes and trays are intended for cosmetics and toiletries only. They are not manufactured, tested or certified for contact with food or beverages, and they must not be used for anything you intend to swallow, for baby formula, or for medication. Do not put anything hot into them and do not clean them in a dishwasher.
Travel and security screening
We publish measured capacities and internal dimensions so you can compare them against the rules that apply to your journey. We do not state or imply that any product will clear any security checkpoint. Liquid allowances, container size limits and pouch requirements are set by the authority at your point of departure, differ between countries, and change without notice. Check the current rules for your departure airport before you travel.
Claims we do not make
Some claims are common in this category and we will not make any of them, because we cannot substantiate them or because making them would place the product in a regulated class:
- Antibacterial, antimicrobial, germ-free, sanitising. In the United States an article marketed as controlling bacteria can be treated as a pesticidal device. Our materials are untreated and we claim nothing about hygiene.
- Waterproof, leak-proof, spill-proof. See above.
- Hypoallergenic, dermatologist approved, medical grade. These are health claims about products that never touch skin in any medical context.
- Food grade, food safe. Not tested for it, not intended for it.
- Approved for security screening. Not ours to approve.
- Compatibility with named cosmetic brands. We publish compartment dimensions in centimetres instead, so you can check against whatever you own.
Reporting a problem
If a product fails in a way that could hurt someone — a cracked mirror panel, a hook that gives way under load, a closure that comes apart — stop using it and tell us straight away at support@sanddhandbag.shop or +1 555 805 4322. Send a photograph and the batch code printed on the care label if you can. We investigate every report, we will replace or refund the item under the refund policy, and where a fault affects a whole production run we will contact every customer who bought from it.
